Care of Furniture
Some tips on care and maintanance.
UPHOLSTERY
All fabrics and leathers will fade over time. Keep furniture away from direct sunlight.
Vacuum upholstered furniture weekly with crevice tool extension to prevent abrasion from crumbs, dust, etc.
Dust all leather upholstery weekly with a soft, dry cloth.
Rotate cushions and pillows weekly to redistribute wear.
Have your fabric furniture professionally cleaned periodically. Most experts recommend overall cleaning every few years.
Do not leave newspapers or other printed materials lying on the upholstery.
Take special precaution with cigarettes, candles, etc., around upholstered pieces.
Keep a clean cloth handy (under the seat cushions) for fast blotting of spills.
Take special care when using harsh household products and cleaners. Cover or remove upholstery when painting to avoid damage from possible splashes.
LEATHER
Maintain at least two feet between your leather furniture and heat sources. Prolonged exposure to heat sources will cause the leather to dry out.
Avoid placing your leather furniture in direct sunlight. Although leather is naturally fade resistant, all materials will fade over time when exposed to direct sunlight.
Dust your leather furniture weekly and vacuum frequently using a soft brush attachment. Unlike fabrics, all surface dust can be removed from leather, making it ideal for those with allergies.
Thoroughly clean your leather furniture with an approved cleaner every six months.
Follow cleaning with an application of an approved protective cream, paying special attention to high-use areas such as seats, backs and arms.
WOOD FURNITURE
All finishes will fade. Keep furniture away from direct sunlight and avoid extremes of heat, cold or humidity.
Dust regularly with a soft cloth.
Protect your wood against scratches from the undersides of lamps, statues, vases, etc. Use protective felt if needed.
Do not allow liquids to stand on wood surfaces. Blot dry immediately.
Use coasters under all hot or cold beverages.
Do not over-wax. It is recommended that you wax only twice a year to avoid wax buildup. Use a good quality wax applied to a clean cloth and wipe in the direction of the grain.
Take special care with cigarettes around your wood furniture.
Be careful of overspray when watering plants or cleaning glass tops.
